The Calm before the move

Lots of little things getting done over the past week or so...paint touch up, an asphalt driveway, picked out blinds, more electrical work, pulled up the floor covering

and roasted a turkey...

AND THE BIGGEST THING... WE GOT OUR CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY!!  Doesn't look as cool as I think it should (it should have balloons and happy faces on it!) but we'll take it any way we can get it.  This little piece of paper give us the ability to move in!  (we are actually still waiting for the bank to close the loan but might be able to move in anyway).

BACKSPLASH
 Backsplash...
had a lot of options but could not find anything that we thought looked better than this

Blinds -
I know...more neutrals and boring but we're kinda stuck in that rut right now!  We are getting blinds on the bedrooms and back windows, everything else is open!

Driveway came this week...we can't drive on it until Monday...which is probably good we aren't moving right now...that would be a long walk uphill!

I remember how excited we were the day we saw that we had this...outhouse.  Today it was picked up and as it drove away, I felt just a little nostalgic, like I wasn't sure I really wanted this to end....but then I slapped myself and came to my senses!

A TURKEY???
So why roast a turkey in the middle of August I hear you ask?  Well ...across town in my little cabin I had a bit (to the tune of $2,000!) of an electrical problem and the power went out.  I got up there in time to salvage some refrigerated things but this turkey was defrosting fast and furious and it was either cook it or toss it.  I decided to try out the convection oven in my microwave...yes you heard that right!  Not sure what the point of that is but since the gas was out (the builder forgot to pay the bill) this was the perfect time to try it.  And it turned out just fine!
TA DA!

Floor comes to life!
We took the cover off the floor ...finally!  This ushers in the hope that we won't have anyone else coming in to the house and trudging around with dirty boots and caulk guns set to go off without notice!  Here are some pictures I took today...we were worried that the floor would make the house super dark but I think it looks fine...esp. once we get rugs and furniture.

If your saying to yourself that those dining room lights look like they are too high, fear not!  We are going to be lowering them, just had to get more electrical cord...should be done next time the electricians stop by.  (hopefully with clean boots!)

WONT BE LONG NOW!!!
